Every. Single. Thing. A MOB Needs To Know About Finding The Perfect Dress.
Once upon a time, Mothers were expected to wear matronly dresses in pastel colours. Luckily times have changed and MOB’s are now spoiled for choice. BUT! Finding the perfect MOB dress can be tricky…
Here’s a few tips (straight from the experts), when choosing the perfect MOB dress.
1. Take Your Cues From The Bride
Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom take note: This day is all about your daughter or soon to be daughter in law. She (and the groom) sets the tone for the day, whether it’s a casual bush wedding or a black tie affair.
Ask for guidelines and follow suit.
The theme of the wedding determine the type of dress. If it’s an informal wedding on the beach or a black tie affair; stick to the colour scheme and feel of the wedding.
2. Take Colour Cues From The Wedding
You need to complement the bride and the wedding party colours NOT match the bride, décor or the bridesmaids for that matter.
Find out the colour of the bridesmaids dresses.
Say for instance if they are all going to wear black cocktail dresses, the MOB can opt for a silver dress. If the bridesmaids are going to wear cobalt blue, you can opt for navy.
This way you will COMPLEMENT, but not MATCH.
3. (Almost) Anything Goes!
These days there are a lot of fashionable choice out there.
MOB’s are no longer limited to a sheath dress and a shoulder wrap.
Make sure your dress complement your personal style. You need to look stylish and be comfortable.
WARNING: The only colour that’s off-limit is the colour of the bride’s dress.
It’s customary for the MOB to buy her dress first and then share her choice with the mother of the groom.
Give her ample time because she might also need alterations.
The mothers’ dresses don’t have to match but must complement each other –
The only person that must stand out on all the wedding pics is the bride!
